Projects & Research

1
Agricultural Phenomics from the Air
Current Work - DPIRD
Leading UAV-based plant phenotyping for the Australian Plant Phenomics Network's DPIRD Node. Designing data acquisition protocols and processing pipelines for high-resolution RGB, multispectral, and hyperspectral imagery (Headwall VNIR+SWIR, GOBI, PhaseOne) to support crop trait analysis in field trials across Western Australia. Work spans GNSS/IMU post-processing, radiometric calibration, orthomosaicking, and trait extraction.
2
Urban Building Footprint Extraction
PhD Research, University of Melbourne
Doctoral work on automated extraction of building footprints from off-nadir aerial and satellite imagery using CNNs and Vision Transformers. Contributions include multi-scale feature aggregation, domain adaptation, knowledge transfer for misaligned labels, and edge-aware ViT-U-Net architectures for boundary regularisation. Published in IEEE GRSL, Expert Systems with Applications, and Remote Sensing.
3
Plant Detection & Counting from UAV
Thammasat University and ListenField Thailand
Long-running work on individual plant detection from drone imagery - beginning with banana plant counting, citrus trees and extending to oil palm condition classification. Combines geo-aware tiling, YOLOv8/RT-DETR training, and foundation-model auto-labelling strategies. The developed pipelines saved the cost of inventory management by up to 5x for the commercial clients in the US and Thailand.
Example 1: Urban Building Footprint Extraction and Height Estimation

Example 2: Tree Detection, Counting and Categorisation

4
Remote Sensing and AI for Crop Insurance
Thammasat University, Thailand
Developed parcel-level flood and drought detection systems for the Thai General Insurance Association using Sentinel-1 SAR, Sentinel-2A optical imagery, and mobile ground observations.
5
Energy Storage Site Suitability
Engineering Consultant, Victoria
GIS-based spatial analysis of mechanical energy storage potential across the State of Victoria, including suitability assessment of disused mine shafts and pumped hydro feasibility studies.
6
Intelligent Transport System Solutions
Thammasat University, Thailand
Developed various ITS solutions using surveillance cameras and AI. Spans applications like Vehicle Classification, Number Plate Recognition, Make/Model Identification, and Driver Drowsiness/Fatigue detection.
Example 3: Crop Insurance Verification and Pest Management

Example 4: Intelligent Transport Systems and Traffic Management
